Aidan's paper published in Nature Aging!
/Thrilled to see our work on senescence and metastasis out in Nature Aging! We found that chemotherapy increases ovarian cancer metastasis in a paracrine manner. We discovered that chemotherapy-induced senescent cancer cells have more fructose in their secretomes, and this microenvironmental fructose is imported and used by neighboring cancer cells in a way that reprograms plasma membrane cholesterol making them more able to detach from surrounding cells. Dietary fructose alone (but not glucose) is sufficient to increase metastatic spread, strengthening the argument that a high fructose diet is pro-tumorigenic. We believe this work has multiple implications related to both chemotherapy treatment and diet.
Congratulations to 1st author Aidan!
