We strongly support both the scientific & professional development of all trainees. There are opportunities to expand into new areas for those looking to transition to independence.
Openings for Postdoctoral Fellows
The lab is actively recruiting postdoctoral fellows. Projects are related to the broad theme in the lab of cellular metabolism. Projects are tailored to individuals’ scientific interests and career goals.
Postdoc applicants can apply using the instructions below.
We are looking for a scientist with at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience to join the lab. The scientist will have an independent project in addition to supporting the training of lab members and developing new projects. Applicants should apply using the instructions below.
Openings for Graduate Rotation Students
Graduate students from Penn or PCOM programs interested in rotations can reach out directly to Dr. Aird (kaird@wistar.org).
Themes of the lab:
1) Bidirectional control of metabolism and the cell cycle, with a focus on non-canonical roles of tumor suppressors and oncogenes in metabolism and associated cell fate decisions.
2) Influence of intra- and extracellular metabolism on therapeutic resistance in cancer (with a focus on ovarian cancer and melanoma).
3) Mechanisms of senescence and the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). How these phenotypes affect the microenvironment, immunological reprogramming, and therapeutic response.
Projects are highly interdisciplinary and collaborative. Opportunities exist for co-mentorship with mass spec expert Dr. Nate Snyder (Temple University), ovarian cancer expert Dr. Ben Bitler (University of Colorado), and cancer and aging expert Dr. Ana Gomes (Moffitt Cancer Center).
Other projects within the major themes of the lab will also be considered.
Essential Qualifications for Postdocs:
Recent recipients of PhD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) degree or close to obtaining a doctoral degree. Necessary research skills include standard molecular and cellular biology techniques. Prior experience in cancer not required!
Essential Qualifications for Staff Scientists:
Candidates must have significant expertise in both basic and advanced cellular and molecular biology, with a strong focus on mechanistic investigation. Strong candidates will have a track record of independently driving high-impact projects, evidenced by publications and funding, and a willingness to learn and integrate new biological fields and techniques. Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) degree and a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral experience and demonstrate a track record of first author as well as collaborative publications in the biomedical sciences.
Qualified candidates should submit a one-page cover letter stating reasons for their scientific interest in the lab and career goals, a curriculum vitae including technical skills, and the names and contact information of three references. Submit your application to: Katherine Aird, PhD at kaird@wistar.org.
