We strongly support both the scientific & professional development of all trainees. There are opportunities to expand into new areas for those looking to transition to independence.
Openings for Postdoctoral Fellows & Rotation Students
The lab is actively recruiting multiple postdoctoral fellows. We are also open to rotation PhD students in both the OGP and IBGP. Projects are related to the broad theme in the lab of cellular metabolism. Projects are tailored to individuals’ scientific interests and career goals.
Postdoc applicants can apply using the instructions below. Interested rotation students should send an email to Dr. Aird.
Themes of the lab:
1) Bidirectional control of metabolism and the cell cycle, with a focus on non-canonical roles of tumor suppressors and oncogenes in metabolism and associated cell fate decisions.
2) Influence of intra- and extracellular metabolism on therapeutic resistance in cancer (with a focus on ovarian cancer and melanoma).
3) Mechanisms of senescence and the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). How these phenotypes affect the microenvironment, immunological reprogramming, and therapeutic response.
Projects are highly interdisciplinary and collaborative. Opportunities exist for co-mentorship with mass spec expert Dr. Nate Snyder (Temple University), ovarian cancer expert Dr. Ben Bitler (University of Colorado), and cancer and aging expert Dr. Ana Gomes (Moffitt Cancer Center).
Other projects within the major themes of the lab will also be considered.
Essential Qualifications for Postdocs:
Recent recipients of PhD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) degree or close to obtaining a doctoral degree. Necessary research skills include standard molecular and cellular biology techniques. Prior experience in cancer not required!
Qualified candidates should submit a one-page cover letter stating reasons for their scientific interest in the lab and career goals, a curriculum vitae including technical skills, and the names and contact information of three references. Submit your application to: Katherine Aird, PhD at kaa140@pitt.edu.
Pittsburgh is a fun city with relatively low cost-of-living. Postdocs are paid on the NIH scale and offered benefits. More information can be found on the Pitt Postdoc website: https://www.medschool.pitt.edu/postdoctoral-scholars-and-associates
