Alex Tom

Research Technician

Alexander began his pursuit of science at the University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate in the biochemistry program. His senior research project focused on the effects of alternative splicing regulatory proteins on cell-to-cell adhesion. Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, Alexander joined Dr. Mitchell Lazar’s lab as a research specialist and began working on metabolic circadian rhythm studies. Here, he enriched his repertoire of molecular biology techniques, as well as various transgenic and surgical methods involving mice. He further refined his experience with murine research models at Jackson Laboratories, before joining Dr. Katherine Aird’s lab in November 2025. He is excited to continue his work with animal studies and metabolism in the context of cancer.
